Thai Bar Shi - Weymouth, MA

Updated: Jan 10

This one is a bit outside of Boston but TOTALLY worth the drive. Here’s why:

Background:
One of the reasons why I love doing what I do is because I get to meet so many new folks. In this case, I got to meet the group of hard working young owners of Thai Bar Shi. I really appreciate that they are very present in their business and very involved with the daily activities. The level of care in their ingredients really doesn't go by unnoticed.

Location:
Thai Bar Shi is located on the edge of Weymouth and Braintree, which is practically down the street from Quincy.
There is PLENTY of parking right outside of the restaurant and they offer take out options as well.

Experience:
I love to let restaurants pick out the foods they want me to feature as they know what folks are always ordering, but most importantly they can recommend dishes that folks may have missed.

To my surprise, these folks brought out a variety of items from their menu, everything including classics like Pad Thai or Curry, new creations such as the Taco Shi, their amazing sushi selection and of course, their Thai Iced Tea.

Within minutes, the table was overflowing with beautiful dishes, with pops of various colors!
Drool Factor: 10/10

Food:
Here are a few things you MUST try from Thai Bar Shi:
  • Nam Tok Moo - This is a grilled bbq pork dish, the perfect balance of savory with a hint of lime. I can not get enough of this seasoning and have to order this EVERY SINGLE TIME.

  • Boat Noodle Soup - Now that it is Noodle Soup Season, I promise this is a good find. We have plenty of Pho and Ramen spots around Boston but have you ever had a gooood Thai Boat Noodle Soup? The noodles are similar to Pho noodles but that broth is more flavorful. The Beef Boat Noodle Soup has a rich yet thin soup that clings on to the noodles in each bite you take. The Chicken Boat Noodle Soup is a lighter and clear broth alternative, both perfect for the chillier days coming up.

  • Taco Shi - Now this is a real game changer in the sushi fusion game. A dish original to Thai Bar Shi. Visually, you’re looking at 3 little tacos, where the shell is actually fried wonton wrappers filled with their imitation crab meat and their secret sauce neatly drizzled on top. After taking your photos, as you bite into it, I can promise the crunch will still be there and you’ll notice the perfect blend of flavors between the sauce, wonton wrapper, and the filling. This has got to be my favorite appetizer.

There are plenty of really good options on their menu, but these three really stand out to me. Photos of additional dishes below.

Note:
The chef here really cares for the quality of their ingredients. I’ve never had a bad serving of uni, foie gras, or sushi (raw fish) here. He persists on sending out top quality ingredients only.
