WhatDaChick - Watertown, MA

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

WhatDaChick is a new Thai Chicken and Rice spot opened in Watertown, MA. It's one of my favorite spots in the area for many reasons:

Location:
I haven't spent too much time in Watertown outside of the Watertown/Arsenal Mall areas but WhatDaChick isn't too far from here. There is ample street parking all around the restaurant as well.

Experience:
I absolutely LOVED the artwork both in and outside of the restaurant. The bright yellow colors really grab your attention and its super hard to ignore the cute large round chicks all around :)

As you enter, the host greets you at the door and the staff is just a super friendly bunch. I had the honor of meeting some of the partners/owners and they were the most welcoming folks. They let us try everything on their menu and I just couldn't stop eating.

There is a cozy dining area to the left of the restaurant and there's also the option to order takeout.

Wait Time: Under 10 Minutes
To my surprise, you will not have to wait more than 10 minutes for your food. They've done what they can to make YOUR wait time as short as possible. You are guaranteed to get your food in under 15 minutes.

My average wait time every time I go is about 7-8 minutes.

Food:
Before I get into the actual orders, I just need to say, the rice here is AMAZING! The rice is super fragrant due to being cooked in chicken broth and fair warning, this rice is here to break your diets :)

What Da Chick Rice - You aboslutely can't go wrong with this one! This is the classic Thai chicken and rice, where the chicken is lightly seasoned but fragrant. Your taste buds won't be overwhelmed by sauces or textures, its soft and smooth and perfectly paired with a ginger scallion sauce (with its own twist by the restaurant). It went perfectly with rice and soup.

Crispy Chicken - One of my favorite things to order! The outside was super crispy and the inside was super hot and the best part is that its thicck and juicy! It's paired with it's own sauce, rice and one soup per order.

Roasted Chicken - My next favorite chicken on the menu, contrary to the crispy chicken, the roasted chicken is super soft all around. The thin slightly sweet and salty sauce on the outside is cooked onto that chicken, slightly caramelized, just heavenly! This is also paired with it's own sauce, rice and one soup per order.

Kanom Tuay - One of the BEST surprises WhatDaChick offered was their dessert. I only tried one and now I regret not trying them all. The Kanom Tuay here is a pudding served on 3 small plates (each the size of a sauce plate), with pandan on the bottom and coconut on the top. It was so delicious, I couldn't hold myself back and pretty much ate an entire order by myself :)

*PS I lowkey loved that most of the food was served on small metal trays. Its different and really adds to the experience.

Drinks:
Thai Ice Tea & Matcha Thai Iced Tea - I can not stop thinking about the thai iced teas here. They were a perfect balance between the flavorful teas, matcha and milk. I absolutely would take a pitcher home if I could, definitely one of the better Thai Iced Teas/Match Thai Iced Teas I've had in Boston.
